SUMMARY:ISCA volunteers session
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are at the heart of ISCA. This event is a dedicated online event for volunteers to meet other volunteers – to network\, solve problems\, talk about challenges and celebrate successes. If you are an ISCA volunteer\, join us for this relaxed and informal 60 minute session. \nHow will the session run? \nThis is one of our more informal sessions. You will have an opportunity to introduce yourself and where you’re from at the start of the session. Then we will split into pairs for 5-10 minutes to allow you to get to know others on a one to one basis. We will repeat this a few times and then move into larger groups of 3 or 4 people\, where you can discuss your ‘wins’ and any challenges you’ve had as a volunteer with ISCA\, which can be fed back to improve the volunteer experience for others. \nVolunteers will have an opportunity to step up and facilitate this group going forwards. \nWho will run the workshop? \nEmily Pitts\, Marketing Director at ISCA\, will facilitate this workshop. Emily is currently a PhD student and Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University. Her role as a Director is voluntary. \nWho is this for? \nThis event is dedicated to ISCA volunteers who have completed an induction. If you haven’t yet completed your induction yet\, don’t worry\, we hold these events every few months and you will be able to join the next one. \nIf you’re not yet a volunteer and would like to join us\, find out if we’re currently recruiting and sign up to find out more here: \nHow to sign up: \nAll current eligible volunteers will receive a personal invite by email from the HR team. If you think you should have received one\, but haven’t had your invite the week before the event\, email us at: \nAccess requirements \nWe seek to make our events accessible\, and this is no exception. If there is something that will help you to engage more effectively in this session\, please email us on: events@intsocialcapital.org. Sometimes\, it’s the small things that make a big difference\, so do email us if you have an access request. \nWe recognise that not all participants are able to attend all sessions for the full duration. You are free to join us and leave at any time during the workshop. \nWe request that you have your name on Zoom (this can be just a first name) to make it easier for us to facilitate the session and address participants correctly. It helps to have cameras on\, but we recognise that sometimes this isn’t possible\, for a variety of reasons.

DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in social capital?\nDo you have questions about social capital research or practical applications?\nWould you like to share you experience and help others?\n\n \n Register for free on Eventbrite\n \nThese sessions are a supportive way to connect with people. You can ask questions\, get advice\, discuss ideas or issues\, get suggestions for literature to read\, or you can just listen. SUMMARY:Social Capital Research Design and Methods
DESCRIPTION:Are you conducting research on social capital?\nWould you like to discuss or get some help with your research design?\nDo you have any problems or challenges with your research design?\n\n \n Register for free on Eventbrite\n \nThese sessions are a supportive way to learn more about social capital research design and methods. You can connect with people\, ask questions\, get advice\, and discuss ideas or issues. \nWho is this for? \nAlthough this workshop is focused on PhD students\, we welcome anyone conducting research on social capital. \nWho will run the workshop? \nBeverly Sloan has a PhD in Organisational Leadership from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is a veteran of the United States Air Force with more than 32 years of service. Her leisure activity includes mentoring masters and doctoral candidates on research practices. \nHow will the session work? \nIn these sessions\, we aim to discuss the research process. This includes defining research; discussing research significance\, problems\, and purposes; examining your worldview and philosophical stance; developing research questions\, sub-questions\, and hypotheses; and your theoretical framework. \nWe will discuss the preliminary literature review and its purpose in helping you build your initial research question. Another key aim of the preliminary literature review is to consider the definition of your key concepts and how that will drive your literature review. As we discuss the literature review\, the goal is to refine the research question\, identify gaps in the literature\, and focus the literature review on the key aspects of your research question. This should also help us develop a good outline for our literature review and identify variables or sub-research questions. \nOnce we understand how the literature review shapes our study\, we will move on to research methods and design. This will not be a linear process\, but it will be a process. \nAccess requirements \nWe seek to make our events accessible\, and this is no exception. If there is something that will help you to engage more effectively in this session\, please email us on: events@intsocialcapital.org. Sometimes\, it’s the small things that make a big difference\, so do email us if you have an access request. \nWe recognise that not all participants are able to attend all sessions for the full duration. SUMMARY:Social Capital Discussion and Q&A Session
This session is an opportunity to share your experience and expertise with others. It’s a great way to take part in discourse related to social capital and find opportunities for mutual learning and the potential for collaboration. \nHow will the session work? \nThe session will be based on questions submitted by participants and will include general discussions of social capital and related concepts. The session will focus on the theoretical and practical application of the concept including its use in research. \nSubmit the question you want to be answered or the issue you would like discussed when you register for the session. \nWho will run the workshop? \nTristan Claridge\, President of ISCA\, will facilitate this session. Tristan has been researching social capital for over 20 years. He has explored the theoretical foundations of the concept and much of his work aims to bring conceptual and theoretical clarification. You are free to join us and leave at any time during the session. \nWe request that you have your name on Zoom (this can be just a first name) to make it easier for us to facilitate the session and address participants correctly. It helps to have cameras on\, but we recognise that sometimes this isn’t possible\, for a variety of reasons.
