This week Marion Cornish will give a presentation: \”Social Capital of NFP Directors in Australia\” followed by a discussion.

This study of non-executive directors on Australian disability service not-for profit boards, reveals a group of social elites, who utilise, often unconsciously, their skills, education and networks to enact symbolic power, represented by strategic cognition in the disability services field in Australia. This social and cultural ratification in the NFP space provides theses directors with the opportunity to align a previously `cleft habitus’ (Bourdieu, 2000; Ingram & Abrahams, 2016). Beforehand, their view of their life history was dominated by their lives spent in the competitive commercial social space. The decision to accept a NFP directorship provides an opportunity for these directors to attain an enhanced identification with their overall life story and history, or a ‘reconciled’ habitus (Ingram & Abrahams, 2016, p.148). Methodological constraints encountered in this study are considered.
