Individual membership frequently asked questions

Our organisational memberships include a number of individual memberships. This means when your organisation becomes a member of ISCA, one or more staff get a membership for free. The number of included individual memberships varies depending on the class of organisational membership: CBO membership has one included seat, Institutional membership has three included seats, and Corporate membership has five included seats. The organisation can opt to purchase more individual memberships when they apply. The organisation does not need to use the individual memberships – they can use up to the number of included and purchased seats.

Our membership dues are tiered by country to ensure membership is accessible to everyone regardless of income. You can click the dropdown to select your country, which will show your country’s membership tier. We also list all countries under each tier at the bottom of the Join Now page.

Our student membership class is for full-time students or students who are studying with a learning load of at least 75% of full-time equivalent as determined by your educational institution. If you are a part-time student at less than 75% of full-time equivalent, then you will need to apply for an Individual Membership in ISCA.

When you apply for student membership, you do not need to provide any documentation. We may ask for confirmation of our current status as a student at any time, and we may request reconfirmation each year. Student membership is available at a significantly reduced rate in line with our aim of supporting research and education related to social capital. We ask that you only select the student membership class if you are currently a full-time student.

To pay by electronic transfer, please tick the “Offline Payment Options” option on the registration form and select “Pay by Bank Transfer”. We will then send you an email with payment instructions. All money received by ISCA goes towards furthering our mission. ISCA is a non-profit organisation and all committee positions, including the office holders, are volunteers who do not receive individual payment or benefit. Your membership fees go towards member benefits and towards advancing the research on and application of the social capital concept for the benefit of all.

If you do not have the financial means to pay the individual, student or retired membership fees, please request a reduction or waiver. Membership fees allow our association to progress our mission, but we do not want money to be a barrier for anyone to become a member of our association. We value inclusion and accessibility for everyone in the world, so please request a reduction or waiver if our membership fees are a barrier to becoming a member. Generally, applicants will receive a partial fee waiver and be required to pay only 30% of the normal fee. Full fee waivers are rarely granted and are reserved only for the most extreme cases of financial hardship. We believe a small financial contribution to ISCA is appropriate in the majority of cases.

Our preferred payment method is a credit card because it requires less input from our volunteer staff. If you cannot pay by credit card, we welcome payment by electronic transfer. To pay by electronic transfer, please tick the “Offline Payment Options” option on the registration form and select “Pay by Bank Transfer”. We will then send you an email with payment instructions. You are responsible for any costs associated with making the payment, such as bank fees or currency conversion fees.
