The Bridge, Issue #1 – Newsletter of the International Social Capital Association

Welcome

Dear Esteemed Members and Colleagues,

ISCA has started a new initiative to send a quarterly newsletter exclusively for members. In this edition:

  • Updates about our new community platform
  • ISCA membership renewals
  • Upcoming events
  • ISCA’s new blog
  • Changes to the ISCA Board of Directors
  • Support for low-income country students

Updates about our new community platform

In case you missed it, last week, we launched our new community platform, exclusively for ISCA members. So far, over a third of our 220 members have joined.

If you did not receive your invitation to join our community on Mighty Networks, please let us know.

Stay up to date with community activities

Mighty Networks has flexible options for receiving updates and notifications. You can customise the notification settings, so you don’t miss out on what is happening but don’t get too many notifications.

You can receive:

  • In-app notifications (on by default)
  • Email notifications (on by default)
  • Mobile push notifications (off by default)
  • Desktop notifications (off by default)
  • Pop-up notifications (on by default)

The following documentation has everything you need to know about notifications in Mighty Networks.

Connect with your smartphone
Mighty Networks has an app that allows you to stay connected, and you can configure it to receive notifications. This is a great way to chat with other members and stay connected.

Interest groups

Social capital is a vast concept with diverse applications and definitions. To focus our discussions and connect with like-minded individuals, interest groups are an excellent way to delve into specific areas of interest.

As our community continues to grow, we strive to create spaces that align with the interests of our members. We value your input, so please let us know which interest groups you would like to be a part of. Once we see a few indications of interest, we will create a group for you to engage with.

ISCA membership renewals

We launched membership a year ago this week. That means for our early members, your renewal will be coming up soon.

If you ticked to automatically renew your membership, you should receive an email notification, and payment will automatically be processed on your membership anniversary. If you would like to change your billing details, you can log in to our website, go to Account and click on the Update Billing Info link.

If you have any questions about your membership, please contact us.

Upcoming events

Our regular events are continuing and proving to be very popular. We still have an occasional webinar, and we hope to organise more webinars in the near future.

Our regular events are:

  • Research design and methods (two sessions, monthly on the last Thursday of the month)
  • Q&A and discussion sessions (two sessions, monthly on the third Wednesday of the month)
  • Writing sessions (weekly on Saturdays)

ISCA’s new blog

We have launched a new blog on our website for op-eds and research articles. The first article is Time to Build a Robust Global Social Capital Community by Ramu Bishwakarma PhD and Charlotte Felix-Faure PhD. We look forward to new posts in the near future.

Changes to the ISCA Board of Directors

It has been a busy year for ISCA as a new international association. As a volunteer board, at times, it has been a challenge to juggle our other work and personal commitments. Nevertheless, we have maintained regular board meetings, and we have progressed several of our most important strategic priorities, most recently, the launch of our Mighty Networks community.

There has been a change on the board since last year’s AGM. Marion Cornish has resigned as a director, and Kathryn Dilworth has been appointed as an interim director until the next AGM. A few board positions will be re-elected at our AGM in September. The date of the AGM in September will be announced soon. Keep an eye out for the invitation to nominate for the board in the coming months.

Support for low-income country students

With the support of an anonymous supporter, ISCA is offering sponsored memberships for students from low-income countries. There are eight memberships still available.

Eligibility: Applicants must be students (part-time or full-time) enrolled in an educational institution in a low-income country (World Bank country classifications by income level).

If you know someone who would benefit from this offer, please forward them the link below to apply.
